SOLD!
This is a drop dead amazing MTD, but ever since I got my latest one, it's not getting as much air time, so I need to see what's out there for options.
It SERIOUSLY pains me to do this, but it's just hard to justify keeping it if it ain't gettin' the luv it (totally) deserves.
First, the specs, it's got and ash body with BOTH a figured maple top AND back in dark cherry burst. The figured back is rare. Mike does not make many of these. Also rare is the abalone inlay on the headstock. It's got an ash neck and a "piano grade" maple board. Those who have been following MTD threads in recent months know that this is currently one of Mike's favorite necks, and let me tell you, there's good reasons why. I believe it weighs in at about 9 3/4 pounds. It's an easy carry tho, so I doubt that's an issue.
It also comes with Mike's deluxe hard case... the same as the one my Marilyn came in (see pic below). This is included as well.
The fret level on this thing is as good or better than any other bass I've ever owned. I can get the action just totally crazy low on it without any specific regional buzz... in other words, amazing.
The playability is off the charts, and the tone is very aggressive. It's very bright and clear, and is very even in the lows. There's a mid peak due to the ash neck that adds mix cutting abilities and the sweet high end that goes along with the maple board rounds out a great tone profile to work in pretty much any situation.
The replacement cost on this bass would conservatively be somewhere around 6K list, 4500 street. Conservatively. IF you could find one with these specs.
I'd like to get around 2K cash + trades, or 3K for the bass. Shipped/48. That's a deal. Now, let's see what folks offer up.
NOTE: At this point in time, I don't care if it doesn't sell, so please, no lowballs. They'll be ignored. I'm not even totally sure I want to let this go yet, but I figured I'd drop my line in the water and see what happened.
Of course, pics, with the famous carpet background...
