Hey guys, i am looking locally at a '93 Modulus Sweet spot, and the guy said something about it possibly being a "Prime Series" It has an EMG DC pup, with EMG BTC preamp, and I guess it has a Cocobolo board, no fret dots, and a solid alder (or ash, i am not too good at figuring that out) body. Are these rare at all? also, would do you think a good price would be?

here are some pics

I purchased a '96 Quantum 5 SweetSpot recently from an individual for $1200. Here's a shot:

The one you're looking at has no finish upgrades, although the cocobolo board is (i think) a $200 upgrade. For it's age I'd say anywhere from $1100-$1400 would be reasonable. They are beautiful sounding basses, even with the one pickup I'm able to get a wide variety of tones. Cheers

The fretboard definitely seems like a custom order. What I find really bizarre are the elephant ears. I'm pretty sure I've never seen them on a Q/SS. I wonder if they make the neck dive. Rare? Sure! Desirable? No idea.

I might pay $800-$1,000 for it.

No idea what he means by 'prime' series. The sweetspot is discontinued and I think alternative fretboards were custom order abck when the SS was still ebing made so I'd say $1200-$1300 is fair. I certainly wouldn't spend more then $1500 though. I got my SS turbo w/ tinted neck for around $1300 if that helps gauge the cost for you.

Good luck!

The "Quantum Prime" was a single-pickup Quantum model with an ash body and a rosewood (or pau ferro?) fretboard. I seem to recall it coming out about the same time as the Sweetspot and the M-92, but the ash body and rosewood board were the major distinguishing features, since neither came stock on any other Quantum at the time.
