Add a Neck PU in an ATK300

I just bought an ATK300 that was on sale at MF. Black with the distressed chrome hardware.

I want to add a neck pickup to it.

The cutting I will have no problem with as I am an accomplished woodworker. It's the electronic end of the install that I will have a problem with. If it was a direct replacement, I'd have no issue but adding one I need a little help.

My thoughts are this, get a passive J-type neck pickup and wire it to the jack with a volume pot.

1. What type of pickup would work for this?
   
2. Would I have any issues volume wise with both the active bridge and the passive neck PUs on at the same time?
   
3. What type of volume pot should I get?
   
4. Or would a blend pot work better than a volume pot?
   
5. If I went with the blend pot, would a 250k attenuate the high frequencies on both PUs? Not sure if I want to attenuate anything on the bridge PU.
   
6. Would adding the passive PU to the jack, would there be any issues electronically with the existing PUs?

I know Swamirob had this done but I think I need more info.

And as to why I'm doing this, I like the sound that a neck PU adds to a bass when used in conjunction with a bridge PU.

Well, a search of the Ibanez parts catalog turned up this;

All of the ATK basses made around the same year as the ATK300RSPBK I ordered use the same EQ controls - EQ PCB/ATK3-BAND SMD TYPE part # for the set - 3EQ1EQB35

300 and 750 use the same EQ, the difference is the switch.

The 300 uses the toggle part # 3SW1MC0001
The 750 uses the 5-way lever part # 3SW1MC0002

They all use the same bridge PU part # 3PU1C4210.
The neck pickup on the 750 is part # 3PU1C4212.

The controls section uses plug type connectors for each component.

So it looks like I can order the neck PU #3PU1C4212 and the 5-way switch #3SW1MC0002 route neck PU cavity, cut a slot for the 5-way and plug the neck pu and switch into the board of the eq. Almost plug and play

Makes sense production wise to make the components that way.

Relatively simple to turn the 300 into a 750.

I just need to find a number for Ibanez US to call and order the parts. I recall someone on TB mentioned they ordered parts directly. I need to search that. Or I need to order through a store.

I found the number for ordering parts - 215-638-8670.

PUs backordered, will probably take a month to get.

So for $58 I can turn my 300 into a 750.

Well, it looks like 1 month turned into 4. I just got the neck PU sent to me. No switch though, I need to call on that.

I'll probably start in August since we have no gigs scheduled then.
