Hi, would love to check out some higher end French / European basses...anyone know the arrondissements (or better yet street addresses) I can find them? I know there are some shops in Montemarte, but so far I'm only seeing standard stuff (fenders, etc).

Merci!!

You should go to the Pigalle area, you'll find dozens of music shops over there.
There are several shops specialized in basses, like California Bass or Bass Center. You will see many French and European brands over there like Vigier, GMR, Mayones, Noguera, etc.

Start with rue de Douai and rue Victor Massé, and then walk in the other streets in the same area.

yep, go to california bass!

also in pigalle, and effect center is nice to, add in a couple of vintage shops, and your credit card will beg you to stop!

having that said, It's still kinda expensive in this area though

Super expensive and most with the exception of Custom Shop are not very friendly. If you are looking for bargains and/or customer service, Paris is definitely not the place.
Save your money and buy instruments in the US. Use part of your eventual instrument budget to go to some restaurants.

The most stubborn and PITA sellers on Earth. See this:

Was there again 1 month ago, after playing a Sadowsky when I asked with the most polite way if I can try the Warwick Buzzard too (and bloody hell in french, god save if you talk in English), the axxhole seller replied, "are you having fun?"
I'd suggest you not to ruin your day there but if you do, please share your -most likely- marvelous experience when you got back.

Don't feel special. Parisians are a PITA to everyone in France.
