OK, I received some post-able info from Michael Tempesta at Yamaha Guitar Development, which I have paraphrased and added to here:
These BB basses were supposed to be released at Winter NAMM 2010 but it looks like the official release will now be at Frankfurt MusikMesse in March 2010. They are the same bass that I am currently playing. The new basses will be made in Japan and they will not be cheap. They are a high-end bass, but there is no official pricing as yet. The body is made of alder, and the neck is a five-ply laminate like the old school BB's, with a really nice rosewood fingerboard. The bridge is unique to this bass, I think. It does have the option of either through-body or traditional stringing. The pickups are all-new, alnico bar, and quite a lot of time went in to getting them just right (which I was involved in, along with the other consulting artists). The model numbers will be BB2024 (no pickguard) & BB2024X (with pickguard) for the 4 string, and BB2025 & BB2025X for the five string.
Best,
JMJ
