SX (Essex) Shortscale Club

I don't think there is one yet. Anyone game? I think these are very cool little wonders that deserve special attention beyond the regular scale SX's.

J6P, that's exactly the reason why I thought this would be useful and not redundant. There is a thread on SX Shortscales but it petered out. It took me a long time to do searches and glean from both the SX Club and the Shortscale Bass Club to find the "overlaps". And recently there seems to be renewed interest. Does anyone second the motion to start this club?

I'll second and be the first to join...

I have a brace of SX shortscale Js, one stock and the other with Hipshot Ultralights and Fender pickups and knobs. Both strung with flats.

SIGN ME UP!!! I actually like my shorty jag (lefty) just the way it is, without any mods. And just as soon as I put on my fav strings (LaBella 'Deep Talkin' flats), it will be just right! A bit of neck dive for sure, but a nice wide rough leather strap helps alot. The orange neck tint takes some getting use to (and is a bit sticky too), but overall, its fun and good looking. Now, about that new bridge........

Yep, I'll take number 7 if its still available.

The only thing that is stock on my SX ss J is the maple/rosewood neck and ash body wood.

*HS ultralite tuners
*Dimarzio Model J pups (highly recommended... really ballsy pickups)
*BA II bridge. Recommended with shortscales to give them more focus and clarity.
*Orange drop cap. A key part of my tone. I have the tone pot just less than half reduced.
*white pearl pg
*Luthier installed a graphite nut and did a full fret job and intonation. she did good work, but not cheap. She made me the PG too.

Crappy pic of what the bass looks like now:

This was originally a fretless bass, but I threw on a replacement blocked SX ss J neck. I like frets and I like rosewood and that's what I have.

Eventually I'll get some better pics up.
