Post Your Band's Practice Space!

my singers apartment. haha i love being in an acoustic band. he sings/guitar/keys, i do steel string acoustic, nylon acoustic, bass, keys. it really is great not having a drummer lol

Here's a few from when I first got my new camera back in June. I was experimenting with the panoramic feature. The room is about 12' by 14' and is just enough for the four of us. My bass amp is now in the corner and we have the PA speakers and the Peavey stack in the open closet in the opposite corner.

No pics at the moment, but my current rehearsal space is in the basement area of my friends apartment up at college. It works out well because it`s... well... a basement, so the noise only hits the rooms to the immediate left, right, and the people above us. Luckily we are friends with all of these people and they enjoy hearing us play so it`s no problem. That said, the room is fairly small and with brick walls so it gets loud. We can snugly fit two half stacks, my 6x10, the drums, and two mic stands in the room with a little area left to walk around.

It`s not much, but it`s free!

Looks like this is the best pictures I have on my computer right now. Room is like 3x4m² and fits like a glove. Could be bigger, though. The room is located in a former industrial building, full of rehearsal spaces (30+ bands).

Great idea for a thread. No pics, but maybe I can get some. Our "regular" rehursal space is an hourly most-gear-provided joint that is an experience in it'self. It's run by a guy who lives there (more on this in a minute) it's in an industrial park on the second floor of a building, in a unit behind a sewing bussiness. (read: "legal" sweat shop)

When you enter into the practice facility, the first thing you notice is the open door to the owners private (only) bathroom. Very 3rd world meets college dorm chic'. Musicians not allowed, but the door is open enough to remind you that you'd never actually want to enter.

Continuing down the hall is a seat from a van and other stuff, basically it's the owner's closet. The Left wall of the hall is not actually a hall. The left wall is a raised metal platform, about three feet high and 18 feet long presumably used for machinery in a previous use of the space. Thats where the proprietor lives. Not having walls of any kind, the walls aremade of milk crates 6+ feet high, filled with books and other stuff and draped with cloth. No one knows how deep this "room" is because no one has ever entered his lair and returned to tell the tale.

The three rooms are actually fairly spacious, hung/insluated with heavy stage curtains, equipped with passable drums, crappy cymbals, a good PA, and not-so bad bass amps. The provided guitar amps are a real crapshoot.

The real wierdness of this space is the random nature of events there. Sometimes you will arrive and be told to wait as he clears bedrolls out of a practice room while a pensive woman stands to the side and watches. Sometimes there will be strange smells, ranging from pot to puke, to the unimmaginable. Sometimes the proprietors dog looks friendly, sometimes like a demon. Sometimes all the rooms are open, sometimes one will be barridaded shut. Sometimes you will find beer left behind in the room minifridge and drink it only to be berated by the owner because the band that left it there expected it to be there next week.

Oh yeah, it's cheap if you book 3 hour slots.

I think this is about every angle I can find - we've also got a pimp light setup - but this is with the florescent lights on before we recorded one day last summer

My rig and guitarist. Not visible in this picture is the guitarist's monstrous amp. The combo next to the bass rig is unused right now. The desk below contains cables, batteries, sometimes pedals, fuses and 70's porno mags.

We rehearse in an enormous antiques warehouse. I'll see if I can get more pictures later.

Our singer/guitarist/songwriter has OCD, well, I'm almost 100% sure

Luckily it only affects how clean he keeps our practice space and doesn't hinder the songwriting process

Man, I would kill for a space like that.

What do you do when you gig? Tear out the stuff you need then put it all back that nice and neat? Tearing down practice rooms for gigs has been the bane of my bands ever having a tidy room.

It's not that hard if everything has its well known place that it goes. My band's rehearsal spot only appears dirty because it's a dusty warehouse. We keep things decently neat. Each amp goes in a specific place, extra cables, pedals, other supplies and porn mags go in the desk beneath my bass rig. The drums go on their rug. Everything in its place.

Actually, funny you ask, THAT particular band I play with doesn't really play out, we did twice last year only. We just write and record and jam covers. It's in the basement of my office building, so it's free (god forbid we ever got fired it'd be a hell of a time clearing out).

It's great to work til 5pm and go down there, crack a beer, and go to town!

My other band that gigs a lot and rehearses more seriously has a dump of a space in the ghetto - let me see if I can find a picture - nope - not a single shot LOL. Definitely not worth taking any pics of THAT place

Oh I get that. It's just that nobody wants to put things back where they belong at 3am when we're unloading after a gig, or waste an hour of practice time putting everything in its place, taping down wires, etc.

Are those (in a sense) egg cartons on the walls? My basement has a pretty annoying echo to it and I've always heard about doing something like that. Does it actually work well?
