Thank you for your input. I really thought contact cleaner was the universal answer and had not considered the downside. Fortunately the problem ceased after I moved the plug from the power bar. I left the amp on all day and played though it many times and it works normally now.

Help me out here Paul. what will the contact cleaner do to create a problem...it seems to evaporate quickly. Clue me in please
