Help me out on an Amp Decision

As I clearly and originally made the distinction between my amplifier and my EQ pedal to begin with, and assigned the blame to my settings on the latter (as in: "An effect that delivers a compressed ''louder'' signal is by nature going to slip right by a limiter anyway") I'm not really sure what...

Agreed. This was exactly my conclusion as to what happened, so I'm not sure where the confusion started.

Jim: You said: "Your pedal is likely capable of boosting the input significantly." Yes, that was exactly what I was saying. I overdid it on my pedal, not on the amp. No, the pedal is just an eq pedal, no other effects. I'm not much of a gearhead, I've played a pretty simple rig for 30 or so...

Help me out on an Amp Decision

You and Jimmy are full of it. 1. You'll notice that nothing in my original post indicated that I was looking for explanation as to why my amp is going out, I was looking for advice on what to replace it with. 2. I've probably never played that amp above the "5" setting on the volume, and so...

Help me out on an Amp Decision

I'm skeptical: What's the limiter for then, if not to prevent the issue I've got? Amp manufacturers aren't going to give you a volume setting you can't use. There's no 11 here.

Yeah, I was kind of leaning that way, but was intrigued by the built in tweeter I originally asked about, in the Markbass amp.

Help me out on an Amp Decision

The speaker is going bad, I'm getting all kinds of fuzz on the low notes, which I can only fix if I turned the bass all the way down on the built-in EQ, as well as on my EQ pedal. After doing some reading around, looks like the most likely scenario is that my speaker is going bad.

Help me out on an Amp Decision

I live in rural Montana so no, no such people are within reach.I just checked, as I was curious: The county I live in is approximately 11% of the size of England, and it has 10,000 total people in it. :-) Aaron

Help me out on an Amp Decision

All: I'm going to have to get a new bass amp. I think I should have been using the limiter function on my GK 115, which I've had for about 10 years. It is now on it's way out. I really like the sound of the single 15, but I've been using it with an EQ pedal, as I've been playing a lot of slap...
