I have D'Addarios Half on my Jazz Bass. They mellow out a bit, but not as much as the rounds does. Ergo you can keep the tone you get from new strings longer than most other strings, but they will always mellow out. Change your strings once in a while;)

This is, as some already has said, an epic strugle, and always a matter of feel and taste. Me, I chose the Jazz Bass. It's more versatile, and responds to me playing different genres. Sice I also have short fingers, the Jazz Bass neck suits me well;)
