Taking only the treble from a flat pickup

Sorry, but I don't think you got me right here. Obviously, the tone, including the bass response, changes with position. I didn't claim it doesn't. At the MM position, I'm happy about the balance of bass and mids, and use it as a foundation to go further. I agree that the treble response is the...

Taking only the treble from a flat pickup

I have an "abused" bass in which I found my sweet spot for the G&L MFD humbucker pickup, approximately in the MM position. The tone is great (very clear mids, tight yet sufficient bass, relatively hot), but I lack the very highs from this position. Even changing to other pickups (P of various...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

If anyone who reads this thread considers the inner/outer/parallel /series/out-of phase version, you can find this elegant pre-made switch to be wired according to the SS (two single) diagram from Schaller (Germany). They claim that the switching is totally silent. This company has a great...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Thank you so much! I'm really not an expert on circuitry, but it makes sense to me. R2 is really a great idea! Anyone else cares to confirm Crater's schematic? I beg to differ. For me, the differences are definitely audible, be it a single-coil solo'd or the combinations I'll be...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

But because I have two humbuckers, so how many preamps does that mean? :D Having each of my humbuckers on a 5 way super switch is really enough. Together, it's basically having 4 single coils available. I love the Varitone/Tonestyler as well. I can't believe there will be much to be desired that...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

In all the schematics I've seen that was the case. I think it's actually a good thing. Sometimes during the same song, I switch quite quickly, so having only usable settings at the end positions makes a lot of sense.

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Thanks for the input, but I'd like to stay passive, and I have two humbuckers to take care of :D

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Googling "5-way super switch Telecaster" brought the best results, because some models have just two single coils: In some of the schematics I've found, The ground of just Tele's neck pickup is connected to the super switch because that pickup also has a cover ground lead: Rock the 5-Tone Tele

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Yes, I tried out of phase once and it was the most useless setting ever! Do you have a schematic for series/inner/parallel/outer for that 5-way blade super switch?? Is there a 4-way version that would do the same job? Just for other people who might be interested in buying a rotary switch in...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

So if I understand you correctly, one 5-way super switch per pickup can't both mute and include a "series" setting (without an additional switch)

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

RGJR, Thanks for the detailed answer. Is it not possible to achieve my goal using a 5 way super switch for each pup?

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

Yes, that's a nice idea. But still, I might come back to the wrong volume setting if I'm not careful. I don't know if that would be critical or not, as I never had such a configuration. I might choose your solution if the switch solution won't take care of the muting. Therefore, this might be...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

This is a nice and compact idea, thank you. However, I like the idea of having the flexibility of choosing all coil combinations. To have a 4 or 5-way switch (with one axis of motion) for each humbucker would be really ideal, as it would give me an immediate understanding of where I'm at. On...

Humbucker 5 way switch: neck coil, bridge coil, parallel, series, off

I thank you all for your help, awesome! I prefer not to have rotary switches because it's harder for me to see what's the current situation (and I don't like the chicken-style knobs). I have always found toggle switches more comfortable as well. Is there any schematic available for 4...
