    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

@Don Hergert , this is really a Talkbass milestone. I'd hate to have to count the times you've described your strings in detail... now, it'll just be "I use Spirocores.";):)

    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

If the string is holding pitch, the core - which handles the string's entire tension - is intact. The Spirocore's core is pretty robust; it's common to see it "naked" and handling the string's tension with no problem. Spiro silks are fragile, and several take-off-and-replace cycles are likely...

Double Bass What is the learning curve like as a new upright bassist?

I applaud you for your desire! Learning to bow the bass has opened up new worlds to me. (by the way: It's jibe -- not jive. Jive doesn't help in learning an instrument.) As an experienced bass guitarist, I got my first double bass in 1975, because my new band was playing some bluegrass and...

Double Bass Solid hand crafted rosewood double bass

I don't know of any (carved) double basses made with maple tops. They are almost always spruce.

    Pickup for upright bass

This is my exact setup in the rehearsal room. It works fine. On gigs I use a Traynor SB112. It also works fine.

Double Bass Yamaha slb300: can you play it on a stand?

Yes, as @BobKay states. Qualified teachers will likely try to dissuade you from playing the bass on a stand, with good reason.

Double Bass Advice on buying, please

Southeast Iowa? Kansas City might be your best bet. In addition to KC Strings, there is Black Dog Music and a guy in Independence who fixes up and sells basses out of his basement.

    It ain't easy.

    Double Bass Buzz from where?

This is a possibility. If your nut is too high, it might "hide" the high spot, whereas a fingered note might expose it.

    Double Bass Fingerboard-eating gut strings

Not that I recall. My last blisters were from playing bass guitar a few years ago, after a long hiatus.

Double Bass Endpin : arco Vs jazz pizzicato

Yes. That bassist's motion originates from his shoulder; his elbow is bent but he is not using it much for motion. And keep in mind that the piece is "soloistic;" I don't think he has a single note below the "4th." We can adjust our physical approach in such cases. I suspect he would look...
