Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

If anyone else is interested in replacing the nut on one of these, I removed mine and took measurements. Turns out it is flat bottomed so a Jazz nut will not work (as I had previously thought). Here are the measurements: length: 1.496" height: 0.215" width: 0.135" e-to-g spacing: 1.147" I'm...

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

I found some hipshot "licensed" ultralight tuning machines on ebay for $60 a set. I've read they are not quite as good as the USA ones but should still be plenty good enough for my needs. That seems like the way to go for a tuner upgrade.

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

To clarify, this is mostly just for fun =) Everything on the Jag is playable as-is. The tuners tune fine and the tone is ok. The biggest issues on mine are the neck dive and the nut setup. This is why I started looking at lighter tuners and a heavier bridge. In terms of the pickups I think...

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

Thats probably true to an extent, though the Squier hardware on here feels very cheap IMO. I'm not sure it would take much to improve it. What do you think about some of the parts I linked from allparts.com? At a minimum, I think I would like to try to address the neck dive with a lighter...

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

anyone ever tried replacing the nut on one of these? I read somewhere that they are the same width as a Jazz Bass. Would one of these precut ones fit: TUSQ Nut Bass Fender Style Jazz 4 String I also spotted this cheap "heavy duty" bridge which I think would be an upgrade...

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

something like these tuners might be a cheap option for reducing neck dive: TK-7567 Single Lightweight Wide Post Bass KeyChrome / Bass side would require drilling some holes though

Help, budget Squier Jaguar SS mods/upgrades? (GFS, Wilkinson, etc)

Theres lots of threads on modding/upgrading Squier VM Jaguar bass guitars, but most people seem to be using some fairly expensive parts (hipshot tuners, seymour duncan pickups, etc..). I'm curious if anyone has tried to do some more budget oriented upgrades like the parts available at...

    Beginner Hand Technique Questions

Thanks for that. I actually just gave it a try with my thumb and it feels pretty good (prob better than using 2 fingers). But now I have a new question. I normally anchor my thumb on the pickup. In this situation obviously I cant do that so I guess I would use one of my other fingers as an...

Help, "interesting" used beginner active bass recommendations

If anyone is curious, I ended up buying a 1986 Ibanez RB850. It plays easy and sounds great to my ears. I really like the "red pearl" finish with black hardware, very 80s looking IMO (in a good way). It came with a hard case and some lightweight La Bella flatwound strings, definitely a...

    Beginner Hand Technique Questions

I'm a beginner bassist. I've run into a few sorts of riffs where I am unsure what the best hand technique is. I've watched some hand technique instructional videos but I've got a few specific examples that i'm unsure of. Can you please provide some feedback on the following examples. Example...

Help Repairing Cabinet on Fender RAD Practice Amp

I took a peek behind the speaker to see what the crack looked like on the inside of the speaker box, and its not cracked inside the box. I just appears to be the outer side piece of wood which attaches the amp to the speaker box (not sure what to call it). So that is obviously not great for...

Help Repairing Cabinet on Fender RAD Practice Amp

I appreciate the responses. I dont think i'm ready to take on building a new cabinet right now (maybe down the road if I fall in love with it). For now I will just use it as is. No rattles or noises as far as I've experienced. I mostly just wanted to shore it up so I could move it around...

Help Repairing Cabinet on Fender RAD Practice Amp

I am completely new to bass amps so I might be missing something basic. Why would it be a bad idea to glue the crack with wood glue and put a metal mending plate across it? Is the worry that it wont be air tight enough? I'm not really worried about what it looks like cosmetically. It sounds...
