New Sire U5 review and discussion thread

I normally use polyprop straps and none of my other two basses have any neck dive (Yamaha / Ibanez), the U5 has a little when standing, but a leather strap that is more grippy totally removed it to the point it doesn't bother me.

Just bought my first set of thomastik infeld jazz flats - GOOD GAWD~!

I've just put a set of JF344's on my Yamaha TRBX504 and they sound phenomenal. I had D'addario chromes on there before and the TI's have such a awesome fundamental and a huge range of tone. I can get a great rock punch or mellow sound and the lower tension is helping with some developing...

Has anyone put flats on theirs, and if so what have you fitted? Have some Thomastik's coming for another bass and am tempted to migrate the D'addario chromes from that bass across to the U5.

That's interesting as when I contacted Sire over the problem with mine they were definitely using D'addario EXL220S. I guess the Ernie Ball are similar in feel and sound?

On all basses I've had it's always clockwise to tighten the rod, irrespective of which end the adjustment is so you are right in terms of which way to turn relative to the strings. If you think in terms of clockwise to tighten, you can't go wrong.

I agree with every word of what you wrote, as a short fingered fella it's the bass I'm picking up by default, without even thinking. I had to buy a decent strap, this isn't a bass suited to a slippy polyprop strap, and that top edge was annoying at first but I don't think about it now. It's...

I've found the dealer sell the EXL220S strings so have asked for a set.

Bit of an update that may help others. The online retailer wanted me to return the bass, which seems excessive for a dodgy string and I don't really want to pack it up and send it away, especially as replacement stock seems limited at the moment, so I reached out to Sire to find out the string...

I was wondering the same, you'd need an instrument with around a 24" scale for it to fit. I'm more inclined to think it's just faulty manufacture. I don't know what strings Sire use, but from the colours of the ball ends and the smooth feel, my guess would be D'addario.

Thank you, everyone I've spoken to has said the same. Have emailed retailer to ask for a replacement.

New Sire U5 review and discussion thread

Hi all new to the forum and have just added a U5 in tobacco sunburst to go with my long scale basses. I've wanted a short scale for a while as I don't have big hands and I'm loving it so far, there's a really good range of tone available from it. I've been having a bit of an issue with the E...
