Finally got the nerve to post my 5 string's new paint job

Beautiful work! Subtle but obvious wood grain would have me picking it up at the shop!

    Double thumping work in metal?

I’m laughably late to the party here if it will let me even comment... But new readers might appreciate a more recent example of a metal bassist using double thumb. Jordan Eberhardt of Scale The Summit and The Contortionist does it to great effect. Good long form play through video here of...

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

Thanks guys! So circling back, while I’m waiting for the BTB745 to come back in stock, I am test-driving a Spector NS Pulse 5. I love the fit and finish... very comfortable to play seated or standing. BUT... I’m finding the low B (and to some extent the E string as well) to be murky and...

    B-string and upper register playing

I’m very interested to know more about that theory. I’m testing a brand new Spector NS Pulse 5 bolt on to add a 5 to my home studio, and was immediately troubled by the sound of both the E and B strings past the 12. (Upon checking, my 4 string Jazz Bass E string also sounds murkier up there, but...

    NBD x2 (Spector Pulse Content)

So nice to see this thread, thanks for sharing photos and some impressions @dcbassist5 !! There are SO few reviews and demos on these (so far), that it’s been really tough to gauge expectations. I’ve never held a Spector before, so I’ve had to rely on photos and forum threads to get an idea of...

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

That low weight does sound appealing! How does the spacing treat you? (Edit: disregard, that’s the 4. Cheers!)

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

@wvbass is that to say you dig Ibanez strongly but think the Spector is still a step up?

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

Those are all great notes, thank you for sharing! Appreciate it!

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

Any particular callouts that lean you that way? You guys are good sports talking it out with me, cheers!

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

String spacing difference is notable, thanks @songwriter21 ... admittedly it's hard to say exactly how tight that would FEEL for me on the Spector. Other details to note are that the BTB has a zero fret, as well as the separate monorail bridge pieces.

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

Thanks for your patience there, was on the road and couldn't pull visuals. Here's some more information and pics of both basses. Thanks so much! NS Pulse 5 by Spector Bass Guitars BTB745

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

no specific preference. My main bass is a Geddy Lee Jazz, which is somewhat narrow though.

Hmm... Ibanez BTB or Spector NS Pulse??

I’m torn between an Ibanez BTB745 and a Spector NS Pulse ... both 35” scale 5-strings, active. The BTB is a neck through with Bartolinis for $900, the Spector a bolt-on with EMGs plus premium gig bag for $1,200... what do you guys think? The BTB sounds like a great value and generally well...
