    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

Hey guys, I just finished the Puretone Hippo pickups switch! At first glance, the output seems a little bit louder (more than what pickup height adjustment could account for) and a lot more balanced between strings and notes. I also took the opportunity to add cavity shielding with some...

    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

Hi guys! I have been following this thread for almost two years, even making a small contribution to it. This year I finally pulled the trigger and ordered Pure-tone Hippo 6 string bass pickups, the supposed only direct drop-ins replacement for the SX Ursa 2. I could not order from their...

    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

I got the birch panel at Omer De Serres, a retail store here in Quebec where they sell DIY stuff, paint, glues, photo stuff, frames, etc. They had several sizes and I chose a bigger one with a great grain. I cut the contour on a vertical saw. The pickup hole is made with drills and a lot of...

    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

Sorry for the large picture. I said I would update as soon as my new pickguard was ready. This is a DIY pickguard: 1/8" 3-ply birch panel with several Varathane coats. The design is inspired by the Fender MODERN PLAYER TELECASTER® BASS. Now my bass don't look so cheap (black body, white...

    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

Indeed, Bassbenj your photo was the origin of my design. Did you buy a pre-made one, or did you buy a stock one then filed it yourself? I would be interested in this upgrade, but I don't have nut files. Also, which site do you recommend for the tusq nuts? I may switch several nuts in my guitar...

    SX Ursa 6-string Jazz bass

...Just to keep updated the string tree problem and possible upgrades. I did one inspired by this thread. Basically, this solved two issues for me: 1) The tuning is more accurate, since the old string trees were really biting in the string. For instance, when I had a flat open string, I...

Peavey Millennium Preamp Upgrade - Step by Step!

I ordered from Parts Department (Shannon Lucas). She was very helpful in confirming all the part numbers, after I insisted those existed after a first denial. On their support web site, they say they do not accept sales by email and provide a US number. Maybe she did an exception for me because...

Peavey Millennium Preamp Upgrade - Step by Step!

I confirm they have some in stock now, with still the same price. Part numer has not changed. And GOOD NEWS: I am ordering one by email with credit card info and it was ok for the sales rep. (I live in Canada)...which they would not allow before: they only made phone sales. Shipping cost is...

Adding tweeter on/off switch, needs ampere/current rating

No, the voltage inside the amp is not 120 V or 240 V. This would mean all european cabs would be more powerful (Impedance x Voltage = Power, and speakers are the same) Circuits are working at different voltages with the help of transformers.

Adding tweeter on/off switch, needs ampere/current rating

It seems there is already a L-pad on the crossover, so I would just have to move the SPST switch between the crossover and the Tweeter positive lug to effectively have a switch with no total impedance variation.

Adding tweeter on/off switch, needs ampere/current rating

Thanks for your quick reply, I have a spare 10 A switch i can use. I did not know the existence of L-pads, but I can interpret wiring schematics and calculate electrical loads: thanks for your time to show me this! The tweeter is already on the amp, I just want to deactivate it when I use...

Adding tweeter on/off switch, needs ampere/current rating

Hi all! I have a technical question here. I am adding a tweeter on/off switch on my Trace Elliot GP7SM 250 (80's 250W solidstate combo). Anyone knows the max current passing there normally? I need to know so I select a switch that is sturdy enough. Thanks!
