Check out Charlie talking about this bass at length on the new release "Live At The Jazz Record Mart".

This is AEB-1 #967. It is in quite good condition, neck is straight and very comfortable to play. Everything looks original and someone has played this bass a lot and cared for it at some time. The pickup has some issues though, I am aware of the nature of the pickup but this one needs tone...

I had the same problem with the E-string, solved it with a bit of foam on the original strings. I have now changed to Labella flats, they sound great and the rattle is gone.

I got back pain a few years ago from playing the double bass. After a few months of swimming 2-3 times a week the pain was gone. It is a very demanding instrument physically, and as you get older it is more important to be in god shape to avoid problems!
