I'm trying to understand the difference between these two sets of TI strings. Does anyone have experience with both and can shed some light on how they differ?

Yeah, I was hoping someone found something that actually worked. Although I have other basses, this Epi is -- there's just something about how fun it is to hold and play that others don't possess.

On the input jack, I used a Q-Tip doused in Deoxit to clean it out and that took care of input scratchiness. Still, the bridge PU, yikes.

I'm home noodling only, through a Beringher 90 watter, generic cables, no pedals. It does quiet down when running neck only, yet my Zone at bridge is no where near as noisy. It could be that it simply needs a little TLC given that it's 34 yo and hasn't been played for years, only now coming...

Rick, is yours super noisy? In connection with my issue, do you think that the stock pickups have anything to do with what I'm hearing (in which case maybe all I need to do is to replace those instead of the electronics)?

Any idea what contributes to the Lyte's electronics noise? Mine is too overbearing and I'm wondering if maybe now is the time to replace everything. Or have others had success managing noise through other less drastic means, such as lining the cavity with copper tape, or replacing input jack...

And I did take off E and A and put those on a Mustang which resulted in the same thump/flat tone so it's the strings that have caught my attention and focus.

How do I check/know if the preamp has been changed from stock? For the strings, amplified they sound as I described. But unamplified, they also sound as I described. For my evaluation purposes, I've been making comparisons between basses by deliberately not amping -- just listening to...
