Thanks for the input so far. The truss rod was my first thought (or a faulty nut). If I pull back n bend the neck, the sound gets more noticeable as I play. But the clacking is only on the bottom 2 strings, wouldn't it be doing it on all of the strings if the neck was too straight? (noob question)

It's not my playing, I don't get the sound on either of my other basses. Even when I play it softly I still get some clacks. Especially on the low B, if I barely fret a note it clacks against the fret, doesn't happen on any of the other strings (well a little on the E, but not as noticeably)

Man, that sucks. Sounds like a nice bass. At least this one was a freebie. I noticed the saddles are bottomed out on the low B so I'm gonna try raising them to see if it helps at all. Not sure if it will though since the clack seems to be coming from near the nut.

well..im just playing it in my room so i haven't been turning it up very loud at all. i keep the gain on like 5 and the master is maybe at 10 o'clock. i keep my eq pretty flat with just a lil boost to the mids and to the 50&100HZ (those are all set at about 2 o'clock position)..the amp doesn't...
