the gob 900 i could not get a good neck pickup tone outta has been diagnosed - one of the coils is dead. Any idea on a replacement single coil to drop in with the hex magnets? Rewind is an option, just thought to check. Thanks!

Spring slow to come, some nice weather the past couple weekends though. couple rounds of water and ebony dust rubbed into grain followed by steel wool/ vinegar staining. then a couple super thin coats of tru oil. finished with steel wool.

Right on, thanks for the experienced eye and insight on the endgrain wrt the finish absorption. some nice days forecasted ahead, will be nice to get out in the sun and do some more sanding. The weathered finish was an initial idea but am going another direction with some things I already have...

Neck came. All looks good, 34" scale nut to 'stock' bridge position. Heel fits snug, one of three holes line up. Neck had some minor boogering on the upper fret board, but for the price.... The G slot on the nut is sus too. For the money though... I'll fix/ live with it.

All the old finish off and down to bare wood. Some hand sanding next sunny day and she'll be ready for 'the treatment'. Did some experimentation on the backside with different techniques. One looked really, really good and haven't heard of anyone else coloring wood this way. Will share...

Thanks Brian. Have not used sanding sealer before - is this similar to conditioner? Have seen this recommended in 'woodworking' circles to get a more even stain on wood like poplar. I'm reconsidering the final finish as a tinted nitro might go more toward the aged look i think I want.. You...

Thanks for recco on cabinet scraper, have to give it a try. Challenge accepted on the finish, have had it hanging outside in Wyoming wind storms the past two days - the stain is getting some help.

Hola, first parts build in progress. Am using factory seconds from ebay that need a little attention. Previous 'luthier' experience is limited - changing necks, plugging/ redrilling stripped neck holes, changing pickups/ tuners... recently did a complete refret which gave me the confidence/...

Good balance and the B sounds really good, one of the better B strings I've had.

The 5 string set I get a couple weeks back was LOADED with wax. The strings, the silks.. There were flakes of wax on my headstock after winding them up. Alcohol treatment worked to clean them up, was grabby af before that.
