    Hoppus Inspired Build

Sat down this evening to put everything back together. Im pretty pleased with the final result. If you look hard enough you can faintly see the outline of the battery box fill. "Good enough for GOVT. work" as we use to say on base.

Thinking about doing a waterslide decal under the pickguard or neck plate, as an Easter egg. Continuing to work on this. I’ve got it looking pretty good. Sanded up to 3500 and polished. Any suggestions on getting it looking better?

I definitely dont take it that way. I’m always down to suggestions and critique. Time will tell how it holds up. But TBH, it will probably be traded or sold by the time any of that would happen. I don’t keep things too long haha

For sure, it’s a good method to use. Definitely not disagreeing. The main spots I used glue were filling very minor leveling issues or in a seam that his stated to show bc I sanded a little too much. I’m not too concerned. Are there better ways, sure. I used a good bonding primer sprayed a...

It took some patience and several layers of both. Between sanding and primer. They’re pretty seamless in person after my final coats of clear. Once I do a final wet sand I will post some photos.

Yeah I filled the holes bc they were all pretty loose. I’ll redrill them and reuse the tortoise pickguard I sanded and buffed it. Right now I’m just waiting for the lacquer to cure before assembly. I’m not afraid of a challenge.

A few weeks ago I was in Norfolk and stopped by AL&M. Saw this Modified Jazz with an American P neck. Thought it was just a modified Hoppus Mk1. PLayed great and was lightweight. I bought it. I am a sucker for a project and parts builds. Being that this was a solid foundation to start, seemed...

Diamond bass comp JR vs. Ampeg Opto comp?

Union tube and transistor LAB comp. Hands down the best sounding compressor ive used. The ampeg opto comp is pretty nice too.

Direct to PA/FOH : AGUILAR AG Preamp or Tone Hammer V2 Preamp ?

I was a longtime user of the TH DI v1. Like the above stated it’s meant to be sorta emulating a tube driven type of sound. However, I never liked it for that. I like the simplicity of the EQ and the parametric mids. The AGS/drive was never my thing personally. When the v2 came out. I jumped...

The Dark Horse of Tone - My Love Affair with the Aguilar Tone Hammer

I agree. The AGS needs a level or blend control. I like the drive feature on the heads. Even bought the V2 TH DI, the drive section on it is still too loud IMO for a useful toggle feature. The TH does sound great. But I prefer the AG and a dirt pedal.

    NBD ! MIM Geddy

Ive owned the Japan, MIM, and USA Geddy basses. IMO the MIM and CIJ looked better with the black blocks vs the pearl on the USA. The neck shapes were different between import and USA. The imports were thinner. USA had a little more girth. Slap a set of Tom Brantley pickups in your MIM and youll...

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

Curious if anyone on this thread can answer this. I have Fodera yin yang with the active EMG PJ set and an active pope 4 band preamp. I’d like to swap them to a GZR set. Would it be as simple as just not hooking the battery red wire, and using the quick connect already installed? Thanks.

Powered speaker/modeler vs amp/cab ??? Can powered speakers compete?

I use both modelers with in ears and amps regularly. I prefer the sound of an amp in the room vs a powered wedge. Thats a great deal for the DB112 pair and the AG700 is awesome. I had one before I switched to a TH700 and 2x SL112 cabs. Modelers are great for IEMs and studio work. But Ive...

Question for Fodera Monarch P Owners

I own a monarch P classic and have another on order. Here’s my .02, I’ve been mainly a P player for decades. The monarch p definitely does the p sound. Depending on which pickup is installed. Since they’ve used several different manufacturers. My current one has the Duncan pu. It sounds like a...
