I keep getting talked out of getting a Rickenbacker. Why??

Sounds like when it comes to Rickenbacker it’s a seller’s market. He probably figured why should he accommodate you when someone else will probably come along and buy it no questions asked. I once saw an online ad for a used Rickenbacker with an asking price the same as a new one. I figured it...

"Ride Like The Wind". I never get tired of this song!

    He prefers the German Metros!

If I remember correctly the thicker headstock was to reduce dead spots and the chambering was due to the increasing weight of wood.

I keep getting talked out of getting a Rickenbacker. Why??

The seller wouldn't let a potential buyer play the bass first? Or is there something in the way you asked that made him respond that way?

Interesting. I'm trying to picture what was going on. Was there excess wood? I was told by Nicolas Wilfer that roasted maple necks make truss rod adjustment stiffer. I too had to remove the neck on mine as the truss rod wouldn't work properly. There was some play in the spoke wheel, as if it...

I blame the chambered body and big honking neck on mine.

He is right about the stiffer truss rod, tuners, and neck dive (probably less of an issue an a four string). That said, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another German Metroline.

Having owned both a Japanese Metro and a German Metroline I agree with his take.

    Sweetest sounding fretless you've played?

My Roscoe Century fret less 5 string. Excellent mwah, I think the diamondwood fingerboard plays a role in that.

I used to own a 4 string Carvin Icon. Great bass!

You can get a Euro Spector for the same price or less and it will have a distinctive tone.

+1 The original Cirrus was known as the poor man’s Ken Smith. The ones I played were impressive!

Agreed, just a generic bass sound. Not bad but nothing distinctive. At the beginning of the video he seems to be saying that it’s the player who supplies the tone. Just a way of saying “Our basses have no character.” That price! 😳 A generic sounding bass can be had for way less.

    Club Sadowsky!!!

Ah, I was wondering if you owned all those basses. Thanks for posting the video. I’m going to give it a good listen through headphones.
