    I can see your point. I do want a bass guitar's headstock and tuners though. I might want to come up with a variation and at some point might actually have to. Most variations look kinda off to me though. As much as I like to be innovative, deep down I'm still a hardcore Fender guy :)

    Well, it has a cello-ish shape, like the Marleaux, but those instrument lack the volume (I mean physically) to produce a similar sound.

    I have a fretless U-bass. It does indeed come closer - but not quite there :) - to The Bace than any other of my instruments.

    I considered a scroll, and even HaphAsSard’s idea, before deciding on the familiar F-style headstock. I think it gets the message across that clearly this is an acoustic bass guitar (yes it’s tuned eadg) with a upright-inspired sound, and not a cello played horizontally.

    It looks to me like he's playing a regular cello. If you check the details on Invalid Link Removed you'll see that mine is based on a cello, but completely modified into a 34" scale acoustic bass with a more bass guitar-like feel.
