Fender magnificent 7 pj bass questions.

There are great. I bought mine new 9 years ago and still use it/love it as my primary bass. I've owned several p basses and prefer this one. You can blend the pickups nicely for fat tones or more cut. Neck is thin and comfy. Everyone who plays it wants it, but I'm never giving it up.

    Help Identifying this Bass

OMG thanks! Wow it sold for over 8k in 2012. I guess I'm not getting one of those. It sounded super cool, though.

    Help Identifying this Bass

Hey guys. I saw Bill Frisel last night, and his bass player (I think his name is Luke Bregman?) was playing this bass. It sounded super woody and great. Does anyone know what make and model that is? Thanks!

    Best U-Bass for Intonation?

With regard to #2, do those strings sound like an upright bass?

    Best U-Bass for Intonation?

Can I buy a fretted one and pull out the frets?

    Best U-Bass for Intonation?

That's a good idea. I've never played a fretless instrument. How difficult is it to train your ear? I have a pretty good ear now, but I'm not sure it's good enough to play fretless straight away. Is the learning curve steep?

    Best U-Bass for Intonation?

Yes I should have specified I'm looking for an acoustic. I want to try to get that upright bass tone. How do you like the Journeyman? How is the intonation on it?

    Best U-Bass for Intonation?

Hey all. What is the best u-bass out there in terms of intonation and tone? Nice hardware that stays in tune would be another perk. Thanks! BG

I shimmed my neck (and the sound changed)

Haha. It won't be for sale. It's the Mag7 P/J bass. Love it! And the action is fine so I removed the shim and went stock. It will stay like this unless any problem shows up, but it's been stable for 3 years now. I was getting greedy and wanted more adjustment room.

Is it possible to sand the heal/pocket into a slight angle instead of shimming it? I don't know how to do this, but just wondering for the future if I ever do need to change the bass' geometry. I think I'd rather do that than sink the bridge.

I shimmed my neck (and the sound changed)

It was happening acoustically without the pickups on, so it's not them. A friend heard the difference, too, and a few people in this thread said they had the same thing happen. We can forget about it because the shim is out! :D Thanks!

I shimmed my neck (and the sound changed)

Yes, unfortunately! I knew that when I bought it. The shop told me ideally it would have a shim, but I liked it so much I bought it anyway. Like I said, though, with the saddles down it's 2mm action which is a good height for me. I was trying to be preemptive and "fix" this so I could have some...

.25 degree shim, Fluid, not 2mm. Thanks above, good posts!
