If I needed an external DI or preamp for gigs without bringing my own amp with good DI-out (or just wanted to use one), I'd probably pick the MXR M81 Bass Preamp. Clean (some might say sterile) tone, DI-Out, 3-band-EQ with choosable mid-frequency, groundlift. Would work for me.
