And, finally, the finish line!!!!!!!!!! A.D. loves his new Hyder bass, and is very happy customer, indeed! He is not only an exceptional player, but is a wonderful guy, as well. It was a pleasure to work with him on this project. Hope you like this build, and please be sure to check out my web...

Now for electronics and wiring. A.D. had sent me the DiMarzio pickups with the cream covers, which really looked cool when the bass was all put together! The pickups are wired just like Sheehan did his, with a volume and tone control for each, and the famous dual output jacks. Additional copper...

O.K., here we go. If I don't get interrupted, I'll post the rest of the build now! Copper shielding work is next. I use the self-adhesive foil, and ground each cavity together using copper "solder sucker" tape. It lays really flat, is very strong, and provides a perfect means of grounding. I...

Yes, A.D. asked me to include the skunk stripe in order to resemble the original, which was a one-piece neck. But as you pointed out, I install my truss rods from the front, then attach the fretboard.

Billy called Billy called his original P bass "The Wife", because he spent so much time with it......her.......hence the heavy modifications and real-life wear and tear on that instrument. A.D. asked me about "distressing" this instrument, but I'm leaving that up to him to do on the road!!!

Jay, thanks for the kind words, and for your questions. The carbon graphite bars that I use are 1/4" x 3/8". They are strong, indeed. My necks are super stable as a result. The square is a little trick that I use to keep the radius work even and level with the eventual neck centerline/profile...

Once I had the spray booth in service, we got the body and neck sprayed and then were ready for wet sanding, buffing and polishing.

Speaking of finishing work, in order to safely use the extremely volatile nitrocellulose lacquer, I had to build this............an explosion-proof spray room in a building that will soon house my entire new shop!!!!!!!!!!

Thinning the headstock with the band saw and drum sander. Then opening the tuner holes to accept the bushings. I use a step drill, which makes a perfectly sized hole and doesn't dig in, grab toss and destroy necks like a regular twist steel drill can. Then the bushings are inserted nice and...
