I had never owned a Fender bass in my 45 years of playing bass. The necks were clunky or too wide. Recently I was saw a 50th anniversary P bass The bass was released in 2001. Somewhere along the way the pup was replaced with a Bartolini. After playing it in the store I bought it.

You might want to consider a Gibson EB-3. The nut is 1.5". I recently bought a slightly banged up 1973 and replaced the PUPs, bridge and wiring harness. Total came to less than $1500. I really like the 30" neck and the action is great. The range of bass sounds I can get with the new higher...

Here is the front. It is a neck through. The PUPS look like DiMarzios. The bass sounds great and the craftsmanship is amazing. Any help with dating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
