    Detuned Cabinets?

Very mature, guys. I never suggested that "detuned" cabinets were superior technology. All I said was I enjoyed the results I got from one. This is apparently a hard pill to swallow for you all. I'm not going to get into an argument about the informal nomenclature of the technology. I...

    Detuned Cabinets?

Just gig level, didn't bother diming the V4, but that'd be an interesting experiment.

    Detuned Cabinets?

Thanks for your analysis. Of course you have to take into account I was using a vintage Ampeg V4 head, and I'm sure you know I wasn't putting pink noise through it, and it wasn't putting out pink noise. But you're also right that that particular driver goes gracefully into over-excursion, I...

    Detuned Cabinets?

I never meant to give you the impression I believed otherwise, you've just misunderstood me. "London Power Cabs" are a thing just like "Barbeque Chicken Pizzas" are a thing. Cool?

    Detuned Cabinets?

I'm sorry you haven't heard of them but I'm not the guy who came up with the idea nor am I interested in telling the whole world about them. All I wanted to do is share some real world experience. Maybe sometime when I have more time.

    Detuned Cabinets?

Well I was posting for the players more than the geek contingent, and I didn't in any way intend to start a discussion about numbers. So count me out of that one. On the other hand you guys feel free to calculate away with all the numbers you want. Believe it or not I'm a great appreciator of...

    Detuned Cabinets?

But to the point the OP, however irrelevant through the passing of time, was asking for real world experience. Next time someone asks for real world experience I'll just draw a freq response plot if that'll make you more happy.

    Detuned Cabinets?

It's not a brand cab, it's handbuilt. I didn't build it. You said detuned cabs aren't a thing which I took as in "London Power" cabs aren't a thing. I was using the name to reference the actual cab (and others like it), which is in existence at my home right now. Apparently I've utterly...

    Detuned Cabinets?

I know they're at different tunings, thank you, and the best tuning to choose is generally dependant on the driver you're using and the tone you're chasing. Exactly my point. We are in agreement here. I don't know why you're trying to take issue with it.

    Detuned Cabinets?

All I wanted to say was I liked the results I got with the cab, and the cab didn't blow. I'm not here to defend whoever's decision it was to call it a detuned cab. I really don't see why this is such a big deal. Some people call SMPS amps digital, some people call tremolo vibrato and vibrato...

    Detuned Cabinets?

A detuned bass has a tuning too. Going to go on and on about that?

    Detuned Cabinets?

Yes we all know that, it's not rocket science. Don't blame me for the nomenclature, I know the port has a tuning, and I know it's different than your standard tuned port, and it's also different, as you say, than the "port" of an open back cab, hence different from either. It's not rocket science.

    Detuned Cabinets?

And for future reference maybe more people would speak up on topics like this with their real world experience if you guys weren't so quick to jump down their throats for it.

    Detuned Cabinets?

Also, "high" is not a specific frequency. And I said for some of the things I do I don't like standard TUNED ported cabs, the detuned cabs are ported, they have detuned ports. I don't know where you got the assumption I meant they're not ported. I didn't say I disliked all ported cabs, or any...

    Detuned Cabinets?

No one "sells" detuned cabs. You can turn any multi driver cab into a detuned cab. What I don't understand is the hostility towards the concept given you're not sure what it entails. And for what it's worth, as stated I'm using an Eminence CB158 in my cab, so no guitar driver.
