Alternative to the Pure Vintage 63

If you already have the Antiquity, I've been a big fan! I also really like the Pure Vintage 60.

Help Me Overthink This: A Tale of Too Many Precision Basses

I know, as soon as I saw this video I was like "guess I'm ordering a LPB and this color from MJT"

Help me authenticate this 77/78 P bass?

Would love to see the pots, neck heel, and any production markings inside the neck pocket, back of pickguard, etc just to over confirm and narrow the manufacture date. But regardless, that's a steal! I love these late 70s necks.

Help Me Overthink This: A Tale of Too Many Precision Basses

I am very tempted to take a heat gun to this poly and use up some lacquer I have

Considering a new semi-hollow body bass

A recent (late-2010's to early 2020's) Guild Starfire II is my recommendation. I love my Casady but the Starfire is more versatile and fun to play. That being said, I'm reducing my collection and plan to only keep my Gibson EB-2 in that semi-hollow tonal spot of the lineup...

    Flatwounds for Bass VI?

If you're going for a vintage VI sound, invest in the LaBella flats. For something a little different, I've been rocking the LaBella Chicago rounds (a collaboration with Chicago Music Exchange) and love them. Between the tone knob, the strangle switch, or some foam near the bridge, plenty of...

    Protective film for slapping?

My experiences with satin finishes suggest that even just looking at the bass can leave shiny spots. If you're slapping a lot, the already-suggested film would be my bet. If it were me, I'd accept that any wear is evidence of a bass well-loved.

Help Me Overthink This: A Tale of Too Many Precision Basses

It's been a delightful week of deep diving into my collection of precision basses. Thanks again to y'all for the thoughts and nudges. I've settled on taking the lake placid blue bass. The pine white bass is staying in storage and may come abroad with me later, but everything else is going to get...

    NBD - It's a Fender. It's a Jazz. It's in my car.

If that Mono bag came with the sale I may actually report him for theft :roflmao:

Help Me Overthink This: A Tale of Too Many Precision Basses

Well I put them up chronologically in the order I built them, not because I have subconscious bias going in that particular choice. But then again maybe I was comfortable with a chronological order because it put my two favorites first! Anywho, thank you all for your thoughts. I've been hanging...

    P-Bass Pickup recommendation for Blues

All of this! I think you can't go wrong with standard wind Lollar or Fralin, and any of the Fender Pure Vintage options. This is subjective of course, but I've never gotten along with Chromes (both tonally and feel) and would recommend a string swap before you try different pickups. LaBella...

I almost put that as an option on the poll! I am 100% buying something when I get to the UK, but it might not be a P bass so that's what I'm bringing on the plane with me.

What the absolute least amount of pedals you could get by with?

Many years ago I did a four day residency in an arena with nothing but a DI and wedges. When the sound guy's good and I'm just providing "standard P bass groove", I bring what I like but go with the flow. I'd say my absolute bare minimum to be happy with tone is 1 pedal: a preamp DI (likely my...
