I asked for feedback here a little while ago, and this is what it turned into

Well done - are you planning to develop an iPhone app, or will it always be accessed through a browser?

Could use some help/advice on fretless bass pickup and electronics

@winston thanks for chiming in! I know that default is parallel so that would be an option, I am sure that I can find a wiring diagram for that. The pickup is Alnico 3. As to your last question, as best as I can tell the only capacitor in the works is a .047 Orange Cap (see photo). At this...

Could use some help/advice on fretless bass pickup and electronics

Thx, that sounds like a good direction. I went ahead and ordered a .1 cap, they're only a few bucks and that'll let me see if changing the capacitor alone would make enough difference.

Could use some help/advice on fretless bass pickup and electronics

Hi all - this is admittedly one area where I don't have much knowledge, so I am hoping that the collective TB mind with more experience in this area can provide some suggestions. I recently acquired a Clement Slim 4 string fretless bass. It has a Nordstrand Bigman 4 pickup set up in parallel...

    Owning Two Exact Same Basses

Just for the sake of having a backup? No. I've been playing for 55 yrs and never needed a backup bass. A different instrument tonally? Sure. But with a P bass, there's so little that can go wrong that its really a waste of money. Always keep a set of some strings and a basic hardware set with...

New Amp Day - Genz Benz!!

I used mine *when I had it) in band rehearsals with a drummer and 2 guitars and it handled it just fine. Very capable little amp.

    Experimenting with Osmo Polyx-Oil Finish

You’re discovering something that furniture builders have known for years - super easy product to apply and very tough. And yes, it’s used in Europe extensively for floors so it’ll hold up just fine.

Estimated cost of repairing a cracked headstock.

Looks darn good to me - did you put any finish on the repaired headstock? I'd probably consider something neutral if not (maybe Osmo finish), just to seal up the wood, that looks kind of porous. I agree with your Titebond approach, when dry that glue is stronger than the wood around it.

    Pickup for upright bass

It should be, from what I can tell it has a high impedance which is what you need for a piezo bass pickup. It would certainly be a good start, you might find that it does everything you need to or you might need more. Depends on what you need to do with the Bass. Firing your shoes, I’d start...

    Pickup for upright bass

I've tried just about every pickup out there. For a low price, I was really impressed with the Vics, but as others have said, it takes some work with the bridge wing pickups to get them dialed in. And you definitely need a decent preamp with this type of pickup. The two that I like the best -...

Estimated cost of repairing a cracked headstock.

I do alot of woodworking, looks pretty straightforward to me. I'd remove the tuners (probably all 3) in the area of the crack. Open the crack enough to get glue into there (I'd probably use slightly watered-down wood glue), the reshape the headstock a bit with a wood file then sanding blocks...

Is there a modern lightweight head that would work with two 4-ohm cabinets?

It'll kick your butt across the room. I had one and traded down as it was almost too much for my needs. Fantastic amp and a great value new.

Hrd to beat the Mesa stuff. If you want simple, either buy an 800D if you want a tube preamp (warm sound, hard hitting), or a used D800 (earliest version, small yet very capable) or a D800+ if you want a few more tonal options - deep and bright switch, variable hpf. I have owned all 3 (although...
