I'm definitely interested in shielding it but I'd have to solder/resolder (?) a few joints and don't have soldering iron at hand (nor am I any good at soldering but I'm usually thorough enough and willing to learn - there's a first for everything). Just want to check with my local shop first...

Ok, so it's fluorescent lights/other appliances/wifi-router/whatever that's causing it. Closing in on my kitchen fluorescent lighting definitely makes it worse and grounding myself via the radiator doesn't help. Dead silent when out of range of whatever appliance/s is/are causing it or playing...

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I was probably unclear. What meant was that I haven't seen a clear yay/nay in regards to whether shielding helps the directional (60Hz?) hum or not on this forum or elsewhere. Some say "shielding won't help", others say "try shielding". I.e. is shielding...
