Double Bass Wolf or Sympathetic Vibration

I use to have all types of issues with open D causing feedback. Not to sure where the sound post is in relation to the bridge. I have had it adjusted a few times for a more focused sound and to try and stop the D from being so sensitive when amplified, which is probably the issue now that it’s...

Double Bass Wolf or Sympathetic Vibration

Same Deal on the D string. Tried last night with a bow in thump position on the G string and it happens there too. I’m probably going to give her a call and see if I can stop by today and get a wolf tone eliminator.

Double Bass Wolf or Sympathetic Vibration

Hey all, was wondering if anyone has had the same issue or knows how to fix. I’m primarily a jazz player that plays with combos and big bands. Currently I’ve been having issues with the Bb-B-C on the G and D strings, but primarily the B. When played, the entire bass vibrates, especially the E...

    MTD OR FENDER

If you have one made for you custom, you can get what ever you want. But I believe he uses 19mm for 4 and 5 strings, and 18mm for 6 strings, which is what my 635-24 is.

UPDATE When is it time to move on?

I use to take every gig offered to me and half the time I wasn't happy, but for the last 4 years I've been very selective. I don't play live as much, but when I do the gigs are always fun, pay well, and are with pro musicians. I would rather play live less and be a hired gun vs tied down to...

    MTD OR FENDER

I own both Fenders and USA MTDs. All depends on what I'm playing musically. To me, brand dosent matter as long as its fun to play, sounds good, and fits the music.

    Bass for sale on Reverb

Personally, I think modding any vintage bass is a bad idea. He said he did all the repairs, painting, mods, etc himself. Which means he put the string on that way (answers that question). If he had did a restore job instead of making mods to it, I think $2500 would be a good price. I don’t...

    Bartolini AGDB wiring Question

Hello all! So I have a tricky question. Here’s the setup: My bass has 5 wire quad coil pickups from Bartolini I had made. They are each connected to there own DPDT on/off/on switch. Each “on” position is jazz using 2 coils (half the pickup, silent jazz) towards the bridge or neck. The off...

    How to "manage" my wife...

This is probably some of the best advise, granted you enjoy being around your wife. Take advantage of the time you have with her. My wife isnt a musician and sometimes I wish she was so she could share my love for music on a deeper level then just a casual listener, even if it isnt the same...

    How to "manage" my wife...

Luckily my wife is not a musician. I did date a singer a long time ago, and thought it was fun and cute to play acoustic while she sang at family things, though I didn't think she was all that great. I know from dealing with my wife about things, she does not like me to advise her that shes...

Anybody else struggle with theory? Anyone NOT struggle? Anyone wanna help this guy?

It always amazes me how many musicians are against learning music theory and will actively discourage others from trying to learn it just because they themselves do not know any theory.

Anybody else struggle with theory? Anyone NOT struggle? Anyone wanna help this guy?

So much shifting haha! I started when i was 14 doing the same box shape approach as well, and like you got tired of them. Plus, I didnt feel like I was learning anything. I could play a melodic minor shape starting on one fret and shift to another fret and play the same shape, but it doesnt...

Anybody else struggle with theory? Anyone NOT struggle? Anyone wanna help this guy?

I think it has to do with scales played using shapes instead of using note names, then playing them in different patterns?

If your serious about learning theory, I wold find a good teacher that will listen to your goals and help you achieve them . Learning theory will make you a better musician, strengthen your musicianship and make you a more viable hire. Playing by ear will only get you so far, just depends on how...

Which makers have 5 strings with 34" scale and 19mm spacing?

I have a 7 year old Fender 24 V that’s 34” and has 18mm string spacing. I had installed Bartolini Pickups, a 3 band eq, added a passive tone, and moved the active/passive switch from the volume knob to a switch. Total money spent in upgrades and the bass is around $800. I think it weighs around...
