    Pickguard ply?

    Hi, I've noticed a number of ads both here and on retail sites where the number of plies of the pick guard are mentioned. Is there an advantage to a 3-ply pick guard over a single ply pick guard? Does it affect tone in any way or is it purely cosmetic? Thanks
