After playing in the Junior High and High School band for several years, primarily on low brass instruments, I started teaching myself bass guitar, which probably accounts for my many bad habits. After a couple of years of playing, I stopped when I went to college.

Fast forward almost 15 years, I'm in the Navy, stationed in Athens, Greece. Our small Navy unit has a band, playing various flavors of rock. The bassist transfers out, so I pick up a borrowed bass and re-teach myself how to play. Bought an Aria Pro II from a local store (the two guitarists played Aria Pro II guitars, because that's what was available). Lots of fun playing most weekends for a couple of years, but then I transfer out and I stop playing once again.

Fast forward another 22 years, and the worship pastor at our church calls to confirm that I play bass. I practiced some "air bass" for a couple of days, then used a borrowed bass for a week or so, and then bought myself an inexpensive Ibanez 5-string. That's been my situation since 2011, although I've got a Carvin Brian Bromberg on order now. Still playing at church, hoping to branch out some.
