    ***Club Verellen*** - Part Deux

Mine gets some grit past noon, it doesn't get too dirty until past 3:00. It's pretty interactive with the master volume too though, but you can definitely get some nice wool on the clean channel.

It was a cold solder joint super easy fix, and the tube survived! Which is good cause these Gold Lions are painfully pricey.

So I had a terrible thing happen this week. One of my meatsmoke's power tubes is redplating! I have contacted Ben and he is super helpful, but shipping the thing to Seattle is about the only option for getting warranty repairs done on it. I have a local shop checking it out to see where the...

I didn't. I went straight to KT88s cause I have always preferred them in SVTs. They have more headroom and saturate later than 6550s, when they do saturate it's gnarly, low-heavy (can get a bit harsh in SVTs) grit. 6550s are a bit warmer and fuzzier. I like them both, but KT88s float my boat a...

Genalex Gold Lion KT88s, drop in replacement for the 6550s. I ordered a set and had Ben put them in when I ordered. If your ears can take it, they saturate really nicely.

So it was absolutely a bad pre-amp tube. The discrepancy between the two channels is way more inline with what I would expect, I think my V1 was a dud. The clean side is about as loud as an SVT and has a TON of sparkle, rumble and punch. The OD is thick and rich now. I cycled in a bunch of...

I havent had a chance to fire it up since the preamp tube swap. Honestly, JJ quality control is lax at best. I hope better quality TungSols do the trick. I had the bass toggle up at the time, so it wasnt that.

    ***Club Verellen*** - Part Deux

Honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed when I first turned mine on. My clean channel is VERY weak for a 300 watt amp, and the OD is loud but kinda tinny and flat. FWIW the cable that powers the cooling fan was left out too and I had to have one shipped to me and I installed it myself. The guts of...

Im using an Ampeg 810 and an Atlas 412. My drummer told me that my rig looks so nice that it made him want to learn bass. :)

Does Fender Still Rule The Studio..?

I have never met an engineer that didn't like it when you show up with a P bass. I got rid of my G&L L-2000 mostly based on the crappy tone it had recorded, even with the forward pickup on, and set to passive it still just didn't have the mid clarity that a P bass has. Live, with the right amp...
