I'm really curious because I've seen you post this in a lot of threads here on talkbass, but this hasn't been my experience at all. Perhaps Yamaha tweaked some stuff on the later models? In fact, I thought I was going crazy reading your and others' comments about the bass sounding thin or bland...

That's a fair point. I forget, does the OBP-3 both boost and cut like the stock pre?

That's interesting. Thanks for clarifying. Yeah it seems like the OBP-3 is known for being very sensitive to small movements of the bass knob. It's why I'd probably look at other options if I ever find myself needing to change the preamp on my bass. The Nordstrand you suggested is definitely one...

Did the OBP-3 make a material difference in terms of tone? I like Aguilar, especially their pickups. I'm probably going with Aguilar Super Doubles if I ever decide to replace the pickups on my 605 and it looks like they'd drop right in.
