The one time I met Jaco Pastorius, he stumbled into a jazz club, drunk and belligerent at 2am, as I had just walked off the stage. Another bassist was called up.
As she was playing, Jaco kept shouting at her that she sucked, that he was the best bassist in the world (true at that time), that he was the best basketball player in the world (false at that time), and that she should get off the stage.
See the movie. This was the peak of his semi-homeless, self-medicating, drug-using and liquor-soaked sad moment.
Three or four months later, he would be thrown out of a club directly onto his head for such behavior. Such a loss.

- >> Fretted << I'm mostly focused on my Warwick Thumb, which I adore.
>> Fretless << I've been playing a Steinberger Fretless since they came out. Yeah they're out of vogue, but I can't part with it.
>> Upright << Kay M1 Blonde. Not a glamorous bass, but it was set up nicely and plays just fine. Wish I could afford a great white whale.
>> Other Children << What can I say? I have a hard time separating from those I love. I sold my first-ever bass and haven't been able to sell one since.
>> 4 vs. 5 << I'm still learning to play four strings correctly. Though I do like to "go low."
>> Amps << I'm mostly a GK person. Had a 150MB for portability and a 800RB for a stack. Now I'm using a GK 1001RB to go into a vintage Ampeg SVT stack. And I have a Mark Bass for portability because I LOVE the thing.
- G.A.S. List
- A beautifully crafted upright acoustic bass. And then a hundred lessons from Ron Carter to spend my aging years learning to play it better.
