Awesome, thank you very much and was pleasantly surprised at the price of the spirocore lights as I thought they would be dearer than £124, €155, $200 and I take it that it's safe to order from thomann haha

On the string forums, someone posted asking if they were any good. They appear to be very loose and don't sound as good as thomastiks and don't have very good sustain.

So I should probably go for the thomastiks or the innovations then as the daddario ones don't get very good reviews?

There is a uk based music shop called gear4music which do bass strings, would any that they have to offer be any good? Sorry that I couldn't post the link as the site won't let me.

Thanks man, very helpful but I'm not really sure where I should buy them, should I try amazon, scour eBay for a good set of strings or look to buy from the official site of the manufactures?

Also man could you give me a few suggestions as to what strings to consider?

Thanks man, got his number today off the guy in matchetts and his address so will either ring him or pop into his studio when I have the money to leave a deposit on the bass so I can go secure the purchase if he steers me that way :)

Also it sounded better today as I wasn't being too careful and played it normally so it sounded rather good, for pizz at least. The guy did let me have a go arco but I couldn't get a sound out of it as he only had a rosined up cello bow with cello rosin haha

Awesome, hoping to run into town on Saturday and head to machetts to inquire further about the bass :). I will see what strings it comes with then and talk about possible upgrades if they we sub par

I really need to brush up my bass clef haha was looking at some Beethoven scores and struggling to read them :/. I should also mention that I'm looking to do some jazz and veer into some classical music on the double bass. Maybe that will help with suggestions as to if the bass is right for me :)

Yeah I shan't be underestimating the amount if time it'll take to learn as it is a completely different beast haha. I have around 10 years experience with fretted stringed instruments which may help a little but not enough to make a huge difference. I have also had a chat with my old music...
