Always pictured this with tort, but I am a sucker for cream.

Wenge with ebony, ash with a brass bridge. Unplugged with flats has a lot more growl than I would have anticipated, in a very good way. I built this for jazz and motown, but thus far I've just been playing some old Geddy Lee stuff.

torn, tort or cream?

Curious if anyone has side by side pics of the Hipshot Clovers vs the Mini Clovers. I see on the BP it's a bout a 1/4" difference in size, but most of the places here in the US that I usually buy my Hipshot stuff from don't seem to have Mini Clovers, a few of them didn't even seem to know it was...

Ordered a neck from Warmoth with Massacar Ebony. So guessing about 6 weeks on that. Now to get the body finished and figure out the rest of the hardware. Torn between going with a honeyburst and black hardware or a nice trans green with gold. Planned on going with a Hipshot A bridge in Aluminum...

Has anyone used pau ferro? Warmoth gives it the thumbs up for fretless but I almost feel like they're pushing it cause they have it? Probably going to go with ziricote, though wondering if bloodwood may be an option.

So I'm doing the Warmoth thing and building a Short Scale J bass. 32" scale, ash body, wenge neck, just not sure about the board. Visually and on most of my guitars and basses I love wenge as a board, not sure about on a fretless. Ebony is an easy choice but want something with some more grain...

Knobs....

Can't comment on the pickups yet. They are quiet. They have some J bass attributes. They seem very even across the strings. Hoping to get to use it this week with students and maybe a small 3 pc jam session and see how it sounds. Right now I am just glad the noise is gone.

Thanks man. We all have our ailments. And like all some days are worse than others. These are great platforms to to tinker on. Not a ton of stock drop in parts so not exactly a "modder's" dream, but with effort and patience I think we're all ending up with a bass we can dig into and enjoy.

Hopefully in the next year as cash and time allow, I want to do a 32" j bass. Battling Lupus and also not the tallest guy, shorter scales are just more fun for me to play. Right now most of my bass time is spent on a 30" which works, but the 32" basses I've gotten to play feel nice. Cheers man!
