Should note I'm on the fence about getting another GK (have had some weird issues with both GKs I had), but I've yet to try a Legacy so that might change. Rumbles are alright but they're almost TOO common around here, they're a great standby but I can't really get some of the sounds I like out...

My vote was on tapewounds and flatwounds. I mostly use LaBella White Nylons, I like the tension and smoothness, and the tone is near-perfect for me. When I played a 6 string I used tapewounds on B-G-C and flatwounds [LaBella LTF] on E-A-D, it was surprisingly comfortable and sounded just fine.

It felt pretty good even with a high tension flatwound, but it'd probably feel even better with low tension flats. The main reason I did it was because the 6 string sets of tapewounds tend to have some really floppy E, A, and D strings. I have some higher gauge tapewounds coming in soon so I'll...

He still mixes LaBella flats on the E, A, and D strings, and uses LaBella white nylon tapes on the B, G, and C. I used the same mix on my 6 string and it felt great, considering doing it on my 5 string.

Mesa amps are hard to come by here but I'll definitely check one out if I see one. I was considering the Rumble 112 but they're discontinued now, never really liked the Rumble combos all too much. Hartke makes fine amps but I could never really get my bread and butter tone out of them, though...

5 string bass with 24 frets. I utilize the B string a lot since I got so used to the range of a tuba in high school that it's hard coded into my brain. 24 frets makes the higher register much more comfortable than on my P-Bass. Not to mention the neck is wider and flatter.

The MB212-II caught my attention, its a similar size and weight to my MB115-II, which was an easy schlep. I really liked the preamp and cab design on the MB combos as well. MarkBass remains an option though.

MarkBass is a good option, I'm looking at the Little Mark IV 300 and Standard 121 HR, but I think those cabs are discontinued. I'm also interested in the GK MB112-II combo, it seems like the more budget-friendly option. The MB115-II I had was reliable and had a nice sound, though boomy at times...
