Damn, not one Marleaux in here! Not only the best bass I've ever owned, probably the best thing I've ever owned.

Its not for me, but I love the innovation. I'm a big fan of Gerald and his work, and wish him as much success as possible.

I tried one of these out a while ago and I was very impressed. I even felt the need to post about it at the time!

Spector Eurobolt 5. Just something about the combination of the nut width, neck profile and 35" scale just felt off. Sounded nice enough though.

That was one of the first things I did when my consat arrived. Oddly enough (compared to your experience) I found those Marleaux strings way too bright, so I put some Elixirs on there and I was good to go. Marleaux sell their preamp as an external unit, maybe you could try that before you start...
