Last Albums You Listened To In Their Entirety?

Lately it’s been Paul and Linda McCartney’s RAM, and Gerry Rafferty’s City to City. I need my comfort food every once in a while.

Another gig where we quit early because the crowd left.

Lol! Precisely. Typing this from the comfort of my couch.

Another gig where we quit early because the crowd left.

The cover band I recently left played dinner shows (7p - 10p) at a family restaurant. We played our usual, boring crappy sets, including ‘90s rockers. I was almost embarrassed for us (a few times I WAS embarrassed, thinking what am I even doing here?). I felt sorry for the patrons and couldn’t...

Acoustic question…only the E string is amplified

Not the answer you wanted to hear - I’ve had two acoustic bass guitars with this exact issue. I was able to fix one by messing with the piezo/bridge geometry and had to trash another that couldn’t be fixed. Reason 47 why I can’t abide by ABGs.

Fender sell replacement Jazz bass necks. Vintage type, as well. They can be had directly from the Fender website.

    Bassists who ride Motorcycles

I was driving to a gig in Newport Beach recently, passed by the Revzilla store. Not sure what was going on but there were several Triumph Bonnies riding around and I STILL remember how luscious they sounded.

    Nightmare Purchase

Yeah - a PLEK’d instrument still needs fine tuning by a person after pleking. I too think pleking is pretty much unnecessary.

    Nightmare Purchase

That sucks, man. I had a “new” Hagstrom eight string - there was a rattle I couldn’t pinpoint. I took it to several techs and they couldn’t diagnose it. I finally came to the conclusion the truss rod broke off somewhere because the neck would rattle (with strings off) when I would hit it with my...

    Bassists who ride Motorcycles

I wimp out as well when it’s like that. All I would think about is how hot and humid it was, not focusing on riding. I tend to wait until it gets under 90°.

Clutch in the friction zone, a little throttle control, some pressure on the rear brake, being not afraid to lean the bike … Jerry Paladino is certainly a Pro! I employ those very same low speed skills on my naked bike.

Veteran Players: Have You Developed An Injury? Do You Regret Playing Bass?

Exactly. Have you seen a veteran drummer’s hands?

I’m the same kind of dork. I love monitoring my mpg on my motorcycle and car as well. The most I’ve gotten on the Trident 660 is about 47 mpg. My car (vw golf) gets about 35 ish. I “hyperdrive” (coast as much as I can etc) the car. I do love to wind out the triple on the trident every once in a...

Fitting Ferrules Into Tuning Machine Holes (?)

Once the tuner holes are properly reamed you can use a clamp with rubber pads to press the ferrules into place.
