Crowdsource info on local Boston dual bass band “No Loss” from the 90’s?

File under hyper-local! Two basses, no guitar, no loss. He had business cards and stationery! I tried out for a reboot (I think?) of this band in the 90’s. He played a lucite bass with lots of guitar effects, and we worked on one song with me playing low bass for a while. It was scrappy and...

Gildaxe Gilaxis - space is the place

Hey Jio, Obviously this bass is worthy of the zombie treatment, so I thought I'd offer a nugget I just learned. @fig answered some questions recently and shared a tone pot trick using the otherwise unused lug of a tone pot to act as protection from scratchy pot sounds. I haven't been able to...

Pot wiring variations - same or different function?

Hey, thanks for checking it out, it means a lot that you took a random chance on us! Glad it hit the mood of the moment. Perhaps our other moods will match more moments 😉

Pot wiring variations - same or different function?

Oh man, it sure is. I was WAY too zoomed in on each pot, but this breaks it down perfectly. Now as a Masshole I have to say, "Dawn breaks over Marblehead." 🌅 🪨 :banghead:

Noooooope, this was all wrong! Got lotsa help in the Pickups & Electronics forum where I should have started.

Pot wiring variations - same or different function?

It's funny, I DID look for those, but I was only looking for dual gang versions because I'm too lazy to set two pots, and when I couldn't find any (probably because it'd be too hard for them to match for the whole range?) I instantly gave up, fell over on the couch, and slept for a week. You...

Pot wiring variations - same or different function?

Thanks @SharpCat and @fig !! This is beyond what I hoped for! I’m still not sure how the differences cause those specific outcomes, but I can use this as a guide while trying to learn more. Dang, I hope it doesn’t involve math… In the meantime I’m confident to move forward with the first...

Pot wiring variations - same or different function?

I'm trying to do hybrid Jazz/Ric electronics for a cheap SX short scale Jazz knock-off. It combines the passive resistor mixing of early Jazz designs with 15K instead of 220K, but with a toggle switch to switch the Bridge pickup from the resistor mixer going to the Tip of a TRS jack to its own...

Amps that growl like I’m used to hearing in loud rock music

I love my V4-B, and when I switched from a 4x10 to a 1x15, I found the growl secret stash. 1x15 has more midrange and snap. Plenty loud enough for 500 people venues, and I’ve never turned it up past 10 o’clock.

I realize I'm talking to myself here, but as a completist I can't stop if I'm not done. I moved the HPF before the mixer because there will be some isolation with the passive mixing and I want to know how it sounds. There will still be some interaction with the other pickup when they're on the...

IF I understand this correctly: Turns out my first diagram was wrong AND unfixable in any reasonable way, as two+ pickup circuits need the pickup inputs connected to the wiper, and for single pickup circuits it goes to the left lug. Because that first diagram’s selection switch changes the...

Les Paul electronics mods ('92 LPB-1)

...and the next "logical" step is to adapt a Jazz dual concentric pot design with passive mixing, with just a little more switch action for the dual outputs.

OK, so I have to complicate it more, but this isn't too bad and makes it more betterererrrrr.

Les Paul electronics mods ('92 LPB-1)

Anyone wondering if the previous wiring diagram proves my mental instability, I'm happy to report that I'm feeling much better now. If I move forward with another mod, it will be far simpler and provide only the most important features of the above mess. Using stacked concentric V/T pots I...

I got one of the last few from Rondo since the announcement that they won't carry SX anymore. I got it with the intention of modding. The first two things it needs are some nut work (too high) and lighter tuners. Pretty good neck dive stock. Hipshot Ultralites are the obvious first choice...
