I finally played today at my new church. It's been about a year & I've missed it. My old church was singing to videos - no music team in the end. It's the first time I've played with no amp on stage and I didn't like my sound in the fold back. It seemed to have a lot of treble even when I had...

I cut my left middle finger once just the day before a Christmas concert. I put a band-aid on it & forgot about it. Once I started playing, the band-aid was getting in the way so I pulled it off. The band was going great when I looked down & saw blood running down the finger. Did I stop playing...

What's the best compliment you've ever received about your playing?

We were improvising for a new band & the guitarist said "Half those notes you play ain't even in the same key!"

The only part of the electronics I've had wear out is the output jack. I've had to replace it every few years, I never leave a lead plugged in when I'm not playing/practicing because it puts a strain on the spring & it wears sooner. I don't know about the wood on guitars or basses but I know...

I used to do that & do the side-ways shuffle as I played. Now I produce my own sheet music & limit each song to 3 pages to fit on 1 music stand.

What I miss is the harmonic diversity on modern worship music. a lot of the old gospel songs were pretty lively. And like you would be playing along in C (for instance) and the harmony would jump to an E7 the work back thru the 'circle of 5ths' (A7-D7-G7). most songs now repeat the same 4 chords...

Had a great service yesterday. We did; Come now is the Time to Worship Love Come down Potter's Hand Victory in Jesus 'Love come down' was a new one for us but it moved along really well. In the end I felt guilty for enjoying it so much. Victory was another mover. Praise God!

It seems song writers have suddenly discovered there's a time signature of 6/8! Most of the new songs I look at are 6/8. PS I'm dying to see songs about Jesus & mention His name a lot. Not just once at the end of the bridge. A lot just use 'He' & 'You', they might as well be about someone's...

I keep seeing the word "Diamond" on sheet music scores. Does anyone know what that's all about? (Just thought I'd ask the brains trust.) PS Happy New Yr all.

I played at St Andrews church in central Sydney one time. The organ there has 32 foot pipes. It was said that when they were played masonry started falling from the ceiling and cracks appeared in the walls. Shortly after the 32 footers were filled with sand to save the old building.

I feel like metronomes and click tracks are like training wheels on a bicycle. Once you develop a steady rhythm they're not needed. Mind you, most of our musicians are amateurs so they are probably need for practice.
