Bass Player magazine to close, as brand moves fully online...

The magazine went downhill over the past five years or so as new owners purchased the publishing rights IMHO. I subscribed ever since the magazine began and paid ahead on my subscription, by check. I received a refund check today for my remaining issues.

Is it ever acceptable to wear shorts at a gig?

Check with your bandleader. If it’s OK with that person, go for it! I love playing fretless. I now have unlimited wrong notes.

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

I received a used Kimberly short scale bass for my fourteenth birthday for which my parents gave me money to buy from a neighbor. Sort of burgundy in color, had one pickup, and an action that reminded me of a traditional Native American bow. Had a volume pot go bad prior to my first gig with it...

How much do you mod your basses

Basically, my four strings get Hipshot D-Tuners, copper foiled electronics cavities, and Dunlop Dual Design straplock pins. If it’s an Asian import I install new high quality Hipshot tuners that physically match the originals, KickAss bridges and maybe some full-size CTS pots if the spirit moves...

    Fender JMJ Mustang Mods

I’ve purchased mine on eBay and paid a fraction of the SRP. Sometimes people install them and don’t like them and eBay sell them too—then you may get a real bargain!

    Seller wants his bass back?

If you are not firmly attached to it I’m with those who say let him purchase one for you, get the upgrades installed that yours has, and ship it to you. You examine it, and if it passes muster ship the original one back with him paying the packing fees and shipping from a FedEx or UPS store as...

Making it yours do you usually modify your new basses?

If it's a cheaper bass (like my Squiers), I throw a set of Hipshot tuners that match the originals on it, sometimes install a D-tuner if the spirit moves me in place of the E-string tuner, install a Hipshot KickAss bridge, copper foil or use shielding paint in the electronics cavities, and maybe...

Good luck with your search. I recall that a TB member also did repairs on AMPS and there was info somewhere in this set of pages about this person. Just did a backsearch and found a post from 7/8/2018.. “Back in 2016 I wrote: >> Quadzilla said: >>Try TBer JKDahlman > >Thanks again! John is...

Unfortunately I don’t have any schematics for the BH220. I don’t know if any of the other schematics I posted earlier in TB will be of assistance to you. The only other ones I posted relate to the BH420…one of them is listed as a schematic; the other more complete one is part of a manual I posted.

I keep all of mine in racks with air space around them, racks are a a size or two larger than the heights of the AMP's. I've had no problems...but if you pull those rack ears and would like to sell them, give he a holler!!

What "non-mainstream" amp gives you the stanky face every time you plug in?

My AMP KD 400. Six-channel Keyboard/Drum amplifier that I keep in Gator case with a wireless receiver, 2 A/B switch setups (one for wired/wireless input to Channel 1; other for switching to another channel quickly), and power strip.

When's the last time you broke a string?

    About 1972. None since!

Do you keep you bass in a case, or on a stand to "display" at all times?

Hard cases all the time except when I am practicing for a high pressure job a few days out. I leave one out on a stand at those times. Other than that in cases along with homemade humidifiers in the winter.
