Played electric guitar in youth (garage bands). Near fatal motorcycle accident in HS. Paralyzed rt arm. Crushed multiple bones in left hand fingers (joints) (crushed, not merely broken). Multiple pins to help bones heal. Bye, bye, guitar. I am over 50 years older now and my dexterity in my left hand is suffering...even popped a tendon in my little finger and cannot press it down very well. Bought an inexpensive bass and amp for "exercise". Put bass mute on first fret to stop ringing, play by pressing strings down (3 fingers still do the trick). Bass is passive and reading about active bass leads me to believe that I would get more/better sound that way. Curious about some things (round wound, flat wound, or tape wound strings...which is better for one-handed neck play?) Other questions as well. I hope to get help, answers, and new friends here.
