Don’t tell me that 70s P is now amazing

I know you're right. I have to say though, it's kind of fun trying to make those weird finger slicers sound good.

I will bow to you on this one, my man. The later 90's are absolutely superior instruments. Part of my whole thing is trying to get the pieces of s#@$ to be fun to play. So of course I have a bass boner for those old CBS Fenders you just find out on the road somewhere. That said... Give me a late...

Hagstrom H8II 8 string Bass-Anyone tried or own one?

Well... I got it. And it's a totally different kind of instrument. So much fun to play. I keep listening back to what I'm doing to just figure the whole thing out and it's... it's friggin' cool.

Again. Any instrument can be "vintage" if you That's interesting. This. Some instruments take longer than other to find happiness. I'm a sucker for the 70's P-basses. there's a vibe and literal heaviness to them that can not be dupicated.

Here's my thing. There is no BAD instrument. All we have to do as players is learn how each instrument wants to be played.

I could not agree more with this statement. Truth is, you make your sound way more than the bass does. All you have to do is learn each instrument. Figure out what it's faults are. Exploit those faults. It's all about making it yours. That's what shaging music is.

I agree with you. However... there is a ballsy medium that mid-70's P-Basses give you. And I like it. No reason not to make those instruments sound better than they should have off the line.

\ Thank you, man. I'm certainly not looking for a 70's sound, but I'm not shying away from it either. This thing is a nice piece of wood so I just want to make it sound like it should have years and years ago. I AM curious about the Aguilars though... I'm assuming they're active?

I'm with you 100%. Have you messed around with the pups at all? I have DiMarzio Quarter Pounders - yeah, I know I know) in the '77. Was wondering if I should grab a set of the Classic 62's to drop in though....

As well you shouldn't. A majority of the time, it's not. I happen to be a fan of old American Fenders and Rickenbackers, but that doesn't mean a damned thing. It all comes down to personal preference.

Don’t tell me that 70s P is now amazing

I've owned a bunch of P-basses over the years but the only one I've kept for 25 years has been the '77. I know there are better basses out there but there's something about this thing that makes me happy. I'm a firm believer in playing whatever the hell instrument you can play... and the...

I am most certainly a bad carpenter. But I also just gave my '77 P a little love and it plays and sounds happy. I had to come back to these forums after a long time of being away from playing... man, it's good to be back.
