A bit more info on the TC BH800 regarding wattage

Hard to say - I've only had mine since 2015, so far so good.

NBD: 1974 Rickenbacker 4001 with questions for the experts (Pic heavy!)

That's not my experience - drilling larger holes, I mean. On my 78 4001 the holes for the strap studs have helical thread inserts, so if you switch to Dunlop strap locks, you're going to have to find similarly threaded bolts. I bought Schaller strap locks too, which I had to get from the...

    Andy Fraser's sound

Yes, I think I had the Kossoff BSC album the week it was released. The sound on that version is like the sound he was achieving live when they toured in 1972 with the Free at Last songs included in the set. Kossoff was playing through a pair of Leslie speakers as well as several Marshall stacks.

    Andy Fraser's sound

I resemble that remark. I think the 1970 IOW Festival was where they were at their youthful zenith. Fabulous band, best gig I saw was at The Albert Hall, Feb 1972 I think. Kossoff had developed his style into something completely outstanding. The brighter the star, the faster they burn out.

    Andy Fraser's sound

You must mean 1969... Free had split by late 1971, reformed again mid 1972, and split permanently in 1973. Paul Kossoff died in March 1976.

    Compare the pair (5 String)

Great point - I do love the look of the headless basses like the EHB1505MS. Definitely going to take a trip into town to play basses for an afternoon.

    Compare the pair (5 String)

No, that's exactly how my mind works too when confronted with these choices.

    Compare the pair (5 String)

Yes, that might be an issue. I’ll have to try it out. My main bass is 33 1/4” and a 34” feels more or less the same. Another 1” might be more noticeable. I already have a TRBX304 which I like, but the advantage I see with the TRBX505 is the fact it’s both passive and active. The Schecter seems...

    Davenbacker 4001-S

More like $5k in AUD. e.g. Rickenbacker 4003 Stereo - Jetglo And that's when you can find one. The local agent told me they are lucky if they get half a dozen in a year.

Rickenbacker 4003 and TI flats: impossible to intonate?

Yes, you're right. That's a theoretical model. Perhaps the measurement technique gives a place to start intonating. The practical limitations on string uniformity, the lack of a perfect knife-edge on the bridge and nut, any imperfections in fret and fretting technique, require the bridge...

Rickenbacker 4003 and TI flats: impossible to intonate?

You could try a scientific approach. Measure the string length from nut to the twelfth fret as accurately as you can - within one or two mm should do. Now measure from twelfth fret to the knife edge of the bridge saddle. Should be identical. If it isn't, adjust the saddle. When the...

Rickenbacker 4003 and TI flats: impossible to intonate?

TI JF 344s worked perfectly on my '78 4001. Lower tension than the Elixirs they replaced, so I was able to improve the action, and they have perfect intonation. Required no adjustment for intonation, in fact. Does your Rick have much tail lift? No sure whether that could have any effect...
