It was a late 70s Ovation Magnum II. To get the chorus effect, he used an Eventide Harmonizer set to either +1 or -1. He recorded the “Escape” album largely with the Ovation, and I believe it wasn’t until “Frontiers” that he used the Steinberger.

I do have an Ampeg Opto-Comp Compressor pedal in line before the Phase 90.

Anyone else have this issue? It’s mostly on the pops as opposed to the slaps. And I don’t think my Phase 90 used to do that. Help! I play active and passive basses, and I have a GigRig 3-To-1 pedal to switch between basses with different outputs and equalize their volumes, so none of my pedals...

Funny thing…that’s not Tom Bailey playing “bass.” That’s Joe Leeway, who is credited with synthesizers, percussion and BGVs on this album. Tom is credited with bass guitar. Damn videos. 🤷🏼‍♂️😂🤘🏼

I read somewhere ages ago that Tom was credited with “contrabass” on this song (and/or album). It might have been a bass magazine from back in the day. And that’s further confusing! 😂 Contrabass is the name of the instrument that Anthony Jackson helped develop…which is basically a 6-string bass...
