Seeing’ a lot of gorgeous knobs here! I bought these woodys but they were a little bit pinkish and totally without gloss. With the help of Matt Liebenau at the Luthier’s Corner I wood stained ‘em darker and added a high gloss.

Finally got it done. Here it is-lighting really changes the feel, but I’m pleased. Thanks for the advice!

Hi Mark- Had a little trouble getting an even application with the CA glue, so tried spray laquer which was a lot easier than expected. The knob's natural color was lighter thank I thought once it got the shine on, so I tried a light coat of black wood stain first, and got a much better match...

What kind of brush do you use to apply the CA glue? My set up will most likely look like this.

Coming to you as a diy novice after having great success on a defret job thanks to these threads... My partner got me this fab Spector NS Dimension multiscale (yes, I am bragging). You may notice that mirror finish... he picked up some wood knobs which are a beautiful match, but unfinished...

I don't know about SUPER growl, but I thought the arco sound was too rough for me. Switched to Superflexibles and am much happier.

Thanks for the suggestions, all - I went with Jazz Harmony by Jaffe and the Jazz Piano Book by Levine. When one gets frustrating I can crack the other.
